  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

Born in Glossop, Derbyshire, England in 1937, Daphne Surfleet worked for the English cricket writer Ernest William Swanton. She met Richie Benaud while he was in England having completed a media training course and while he was working as a commentator for the BBC. They married in 1967, becoming Richie’s second wife. Daphne Benaud became almost as much a household name as her husband as she was an integral part of Richie’s professional life as his executive assistant, manager and trusted companion.
