Mary Vallentine AO (1950?- ) earned an undergraduate arts degree in drama and music and then trained in arts management with Musica Viva Australia, specifically as first manager of the Australian Chamber Orchestra. She was administrator of the 1980 and 1982 Adelaide Festivals and General Manager of the State Theatre Company of South Australia before returning to Sydney to take up the position of Managing Director of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, a position she held for 17 years.

Mary has had multiple freelance roles in arts management and consultancy and was chair of the Australian Youth Orchestra for 10 years. Her most recent full-time management role was Managing Director of the Melbourne Recital Centre, which she finished in 2016. Recognised for her services to the arts in Australia, she was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia in The Queen's Birthday 1996 Honours List and awarded the Centenary Medal in 2001 for services to Australian society in business leadership.
