  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Established on the waterfront in the Sydney eastern suburb of Watson’s Bay in the 1800s, Doyle’s is Australia’s oldest continually operating fish and chip business. Today the Doyle family operate three seafood outlets in the suburb and their name is synonymous in Sydney with seafood dining. In August 1980, John Travolta visited Sydney promoting the film Urban Cowboy in which he played the lead role.

    One black and white photograph depicting a group of people including businessman Peter Doyle (standing, in white t-shirt) with US actor John Travolta outside the Doyles site on Watsons Bay Beach. Six other people are also pictured and include Michael Doyle (standing, in black top), Jack Doyle (seated, second from right) and Alice Doyle (seated, second from left) raising a glass to toast the fifth anniversary of Doyle’s labelled Riesling wine and the sale of 5,000 dozen bottles of the Riesling.
