    The Honourable Linda Burney is the Minister for Indigenous Australians and the Member for Barton. A proud member of the Wiradjuri nation, Linda was the first Aboriginal person to be elected to the NSW Parliament and the first Aboriginal woman to serve in the House of Representatives.

    Linda Burney and photographer Juno Gemes have been close friends since meeting in 1985. This portrait is a collaboration created while Burney was staying with Gemes to celebrate her birthday on the Hawkesbury River during the campaign for the Voice to Parliament Referendum. This portrait was a finalist in the Olive Cotton Award for photographic portraiture 2023, Tweed Heads and was exhibited from Friday 14 July to Sunday 24 September 2023 at Tweed Regional Gallery.

  • Scope and Content
    This collection comprises one a high-res edited TIFF file of Linda Burney reclining in an armchair on the eve of her birthday taken whilst Burney was staying with the photographer on the Hawkesbury River in New South Wales.

    It also includes one duotone print on fine art paper at call no. PXX 123 which was exhibited at Tweed Regional Gallery as part of the Olive Cotton Award exhibition 2023.
