  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Bubby Allan (1917-2014) was born Theda Allan in Annandale and later known by her married name Bub Jewson.​​ Bubby was a child performer with the group ‘The Sunbeams', and in the 1930s along with her mother ran the Theda Allan School of Dancing in Newtown. Bubby worked as a solo vaudeville performer in the 1930s and 1940s, particularly with the Tivoli Circuit. For several years Bubby worked with George Wallace, one of the most prominent vaudeville performers of the time and along with her mother, lived at his farm at Eastern Creek. In 1949 Bubby married Leslie Jewson and retired from show business.

    Collection of material compiled by Bubby Allan documenting her career from child actress to star of the Tivoli Theatre, Sydney and mentor to up and coming performers. Includes fan mail, photographs and a souvenir handkerchief commemorating the Japanese surrender, September, 1945.

    Nippon Times handkerchief, World War II, 1945
    An American produced souvenir handkerchief made of artificial silk featuring an olive-green copy of the front page of their troop serial 'Nippon Times' from September 1945. The headline reads, “Unconditional surrender by Japs completed at 20-minute ceremony, the end of the long road back”. A map of Japan is underneath the heading and has been illustrated with cherry blossoms, birds and the United Kingdom, United States, and Australian flags.
