  • Scope and Content
    Lithograph on silk with heading "Declaration of Peace" below which are depicted three drawings, the centre one of two soldiers shaking hands, the left a portrait of His Majesty King Edward VII, the right of Her Majesty Queen Alexandria. Below this the words in red: Anglo-Boer War 1899-1902.

    A text block in the centre of the declaration states: On Sunday Morning, June 1st, 1902, His Excellency The Honourable Sir Walter Francis Hely-Hutchinson, G.C.M.G., Governor and Commander-in-Chief of His Majesty's Colony of the Capr of Good Hope, received the following message by cable from the Right Honourable Joseph Chamberlain, His Majesty's Secretary of State for the Colonies: "1st June, 1902.- The representatives of the Boer forces still in the field have accepted terms of surrender offered by His Majesty's Government."
