  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    William Carron (1821-1876) was born at Pulham, Norfolk, England the son of Charles (a gardener) and Mary. After marrying Eliza Ellis, Carron sailed to New South Wales on the Royal Saxon, 18 March 1844 and pursued a career in botany. In 1848 Caron joined Edmund Kennedy’s ill-fated expedition to Rockingham Bay, Queensland.
    After the death of his first wife, Carron married Jessie Pearson in Sydney and had two daughters, Emily Noble (1870-1964) and Annie Mabel (1875-1966).
    Carron died in Grafton, New South Wales in 1871 whilst preparing to take on the role of inspector of forests and forestry ranger in the Clarence district.
