There are photographs of men, women, and children in all age categories on the stage and watching the festival events, including the beauty contest on the main stage, the burnout drift shows and the Santa visit, as well as formal portraits of some participants and their mullets.

Mulletfest is an annual event celebrating the iconic mullet hairstyle. It was originally founded by Laura Johnson in 2018 to revitalise her hometown of Kurri Kurri, New South Wales. Since its inception, the festival has also raised funds for brain cancer research through the Mark Hughes Foundation. Hughes, a former national Rugby league player, grew up in Kurri Kurri and was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2013. Mulletfest organiser, Laura Johnson, lost her friend, Matt Foster, to the disease in 2019.

Mulletfest has been highly successful, and has moved from its original location to accommodate its large visitor numbers. In 2023 the Grand Final was held at Hebburn Motorsport Park in the Hunter Valley, near Kurri Kurri, New South Wales
