    Frederick Claude Vivian (Fred) Lane (1880-1969) was born at Miller's Point, Sydney and was the first athlete to represent Australia in swimming at the Olympic Games. After retiring from competitive swimming in 1902, Lane became a master printer and partner in the printing and stationery firm Smith & Lane. He was also known as an art collector.
