On 2 February 2023, a funeral was held for Cardinal George Pell at St. Mary’s Cathedral, Sydney. Mourners filled the Cathedral and those who could not fit in the church gathered in the forecourt to watch the event live-streamed on a large screen. Protestors, including child-sex abuse survivors and their supporters, as well as members of the LGBTQIA+ community, staged a protest in Hyde Park, Sydney, opposite the Cathedral.
