  1 watercolour of the Holly-Leaved mangrove showing green holly shaped leaves with a violet blue flower.
  
  Caption label no. 3 on mounted board. "Holly-Leaved mangrove. Acanthus ilicifolius. 'Near the beach, I met several natives who had been fishing. I remained with them some time and learned some of their expressions. By the side of a salt water creek, I saw a beautiful species of Ruellia with terminal spikes of blue flowers, and spiny-toothed leaves'. W. Carron, 26 May 1848".
